Lockyer sues H&R Block over tax refund loans
California Attorney General Bill Lockyer sued H&R Block on Wednesday, seeking to overhaul a widely used loan program that entitles the nation's largest tax preparer to a chunk of its customers' tax refunds.
Tax shields are expiring, and investors will get the bill. Many people who own mutual funds will get an unpleasant surprise soon: They will get hit with big capital gains taxes even though the stock market has been flat.
