Shoppers planning to hit the stores this Labor Day weekend will find a nice surprise at the cash register: a tax break on clothing and shoe purchases.

Tax refund season is just around the corner, but area residents owing parking tickets, disorderly conduct fines or other municipal penalties could be receiving smaller than expected refund checks under a newly implemented municipal court program.
Royse ISD proposes drop in tax rate
The Royse City school board endorsed a tax rate reduction and a $24.2 million budget this week. The proposed tax rate of $1.57 per $100 of assessed property value is down nearly 18 cents from the current rate of $1.747. But that doesn't mean everyone's tax bill will drop.
