Australians pay $278 billion in tax: ABS
Australians paid $278.5 billion in tax to all levels of government in 2004-05, new figures show. The Australian Bureau of Statistics found the amount of tax paid by Australians increased 8.3 per cent over 2003/04, or more than $21 billion.
County Comptroller expands audit of special tax districts
Saying that many of Nassau's special tax districts may be seriously mismanaged and unaccountable to taxpayers, Nassau County Comptroller Howard Weitzman today released a report and called for a nonpartisan conference on to oversee a review of the more than 200 districts.
