Alternative tax is no alternative
By President Bush's definition, allowing a tax cut to lapse is effectively a tax increase. Thus, by the president's definition, his administration, through inaction, is hitting the taxpayers with a large and fast-expanding tax increase.
What's new: The Borough Council adopted the 2008 municipal budget this week. The $10.2 million spending plan increased by $356,000, or 3.6 percent, over last year's budget. The $5.7 million tax levy for 2008 was up $514,000, or about 10 percent, from last year's amount.
