State panel to push new income tax for education
MONTPELIER - A House study committee dominated by Democrats this week will recommend that Vermont levy a 1.5 percent flat income tax to help pay for education and reduce Vermonter's ever-increasing property tax burdens.
Session to explain income-tax issue
FOREST PARK - Residents wishing to know more about the income tax increase on the ballot Feb. 6 can hear an explanation from city officials at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at 1201 W. Kemper Road.
People urged to apply for tax relief
Tuesday is the final day this year to apply for real estate tax relief. An average homeowner would see property taxes decline by $333 if his or her school district elects to participate in the statewide program. But the homeowner must apply. It's not automatic.
