Transpower grid deal prompts tougher tax rules
The Government is tightening the rules for state-owned enterprises (SOEs) after publicity surrounding Transpower's overseas financing deals. Later this year SOEs will have more restrictive guidelines placed on their tax planning, a spokeswoman for Finance Minister Michael Cullen said.
People urged to apply for tax relief
Tuesday is the final day this year to apply for real estate tax relief. An average homeowner would see property taxes decline by $333 if his or her school district elects to participate in the statewide program. But the homeowner must apply. It's not automatic.
