Tax-free goods lured weekend crowds
The shoe section at Academy Sports & Outdoors on the Southwest Freeway was so crowded Sunday afternoon that it was difficult to maneuver the aisles, much less find a place to sit. And that's why some shoppers thought twice before hitting the stores this weekend, when most clothing and shoes costing less than $100 were exempt from the usual 8.25 percent sales tax.
