Early tax filers see $200 jump in refunds
Federal tax refunds have jumped an average $200 for early filers. The Internal Revenue Service reported yesterday that the average refund grew to $2,436 for tax returns filed through last Friday. That's a 9 percent increase from the average $2,230 check sent to early filers last year.
Gross receipts tax is best option for raising revenues
Gov. Blagojevich's proposal to institute a gross receipts tax in Illinois has already stirred controversy. No one likes the idea of higher taxes. But if the state is to finance vital services in health care and education, it is mandatory that we expand tax revenues.
